YPrime alternatives for teams that need more than an eCOA app

YPrime is a configurable eCOA, IRT and eConsent platform with serious global reach, built for sponsors and CROs running complex protocols. If eCOA plus randomisation is the job, it's a strong choice. If your study depends on a branded participant app, native consumer wearable data, televisits and engagement that lasts for years, WeGuide gives you that on one managed platform, priced for the study you're running.

No pressure, no hard sell. A 30 minute walkthrough with a research colleague who's built platforms like yours.

Why research teams look for a YPrime alternative

The short version

YPrime grew from a two person consultancy founded in 2006 into an eClinical vendor whose eCOA has been deployed in nearly 1,000 clinical trials across more than 100 countries and 19 therapeutic areas. Its platform brings three products together: eCOA, IRT for randomisation and supply, and eConsent. For a sponsor running a global pharma study, that focus is a real advantage.

Why teams look elsewhere

The pressure usually comes from what sits outside that focus. YPrime's platform page lists eCOA, IRT and eConsent. It doesn't list televisits, patient registries or longitudinal cohort programmes, and its participant experience lives inside the YPrime eCOA app. In April 2026 YPrime added a Participant Hub to that app, with visit schedules, upcoming tasks, study education, FAQs and training materials. That's a thoughtful step, and it is still an eCOA app first.

The second thing teams notice is who the product is designed around. YPrime describes its customers as top pharma leaders, emerging biotechs and CROs, and much of its messaging is about faster study start up, protocol amendments, investigator oversight and supply visibility. Those are sponsor and site problems, and YPrime solves them well. Academic research groups, registries, population cohorts and digital health programmes often have a different problem: keeping participants engaged with a study they joined voluntarily, sometimes for years, with no site visit to bring them back.

WeGuide starts from the participant. We built whitelabel iOS and Android apps under your brand, with eScreening and eConsent, eCOA from a library of validated instruments, native Garmin, Apple Health, Health Connect and Fitbit Air integrations, televisits and an engagement layer of push notifications, messaging, education content and gamification. If your study needs IRT for blinded randomisation and drug supply, YPrime is probably the better fit for that part, and we'll say so on the call. If the participant experience is where your study is won or lost, read on.

A quick way to tell which side you're on: count the touchpoints. If most of the participant's job is to complete scheduled assessments in a diary app while site staff manage randomisation, dispensing and visits, an eCOA and IRT platform like YPrime is designed for exactly that shape of study. If participants are expected to consent remotely, report on their own schedule, wear a device they already own, join video visits, read education content and stay enrolled for a year or more, the participant platform becomes the centre of the study and everything else connects to it. Plenty of programmes sit in between, which is why the hybrid option further down this page exists.

Key differences between WeGuide and YPrime

For teams evaluating YPrime for eCOA and participant engagement rather than IRT, here's what changes with WeGuide.

Your brand on the participant's phone

YPrime's participant experience runs inside the YPrime eCOA app, now with a Participant Hub for schedules and study information. WeGuide ships native iOS and Android apps fully branded under your organisation's name and identity. Consent, questionnaires, education content, messages, televisits and device sync all live in one app that becomes the home of the study.

Engagement beyond the questionnaire

YPrime designs its eCOA app to reduce burden and encourage timely completion, and it does that well. WeGuide is built around the whole participant relationship: push notifications, in app messaging, scheduling, patient education content and gamification, configured by your team in a no code Program Builder.

Trials, registries and cohorts on one platform

YPrime is built around the trial lifecycle, from start up to database lock. WeGuide runs trials, longitudinal patient registries and population cohorts on the same platform, from GenV in Victoria to the FSHD Global registry. If your research programme outlasts a single protocol, that continuity matters: participants keep the same app, the same consent history and the same relationship with your team.

Where YPrime genuinely excels

eCOA and IRT from one vendor. YPrime puts eCOA, IRT and eConsent on one platform, so randomisation, supply, assessments and consent share data flows. WeGuide is not an IRT vendor. For blinded drug trials that need randomisation and supply management, YPrime or another dedicated IRT belongs in your stack.

Global localisation. YPrime supports 250+ languages and 100+ countries, with AI supported eCOA localisation that it describes as automating and validating translation migration. For a multinational study with many language versions of the same instruments, that is a real time saver.

Configurable eCOA for complex protocols. Components validated in advance, BYOD or provisioned devices, event driven diaries, investigator review and electronic sign off, and therapeutic area work such as tender and swollen joint counts and glucometer integration. YPrime was named a Leader in Everest Group's 2025 eCOA PEAK Matrix assessment.

Targeted re-consent. YPrime's eConsent deploys new versions, retires outdated forms and flags only impacted participants for re-consent, with full version history. That's the detail inspectors and site staff care about.

Sponsor and CRO track record. Nearly 1,000 trials across 19 therapeutic areas and a CRO partner programme mean YPrime knows the operational rhythm of pharma studies, from start up to protocol amendments.

If your study needs IRT, deep eCOA localisation across dozens of countries, or a single eCOA and IRT vendor for a pharma programme, YPrime is a strong fit. We'd rather say that honestly than pitch WeGuide into a study where it doesn't belong.

When WeGuide runs alongside YPrime, and when it doesn't

‍

Some sponsors keep YPrime for IRT and eCOA inside a pharma trial, and use WeGuide for a participant facing programme that sits around or after it: a registry, a long term follow up cohort, or a branded engagement app with televisits. Our Integration Engine connects through REST API, webhooks and HL7 / FHIR, so participant data can flow where your team needs it. There is no prebuilt YPrime connector today, so we scope the data flow with you in the discovery call.

The pattern we see most often is sequential rather than parallel. A pharma trial runs on YPrime for eCOA and IRT, and when the trial ends, the sponsor or a patient organisation wants to keep following the same participants in a registry or an extension programme. That follow up is a long term engagement problem, not a randomisation problem, and it is where WeGuide fits.

Running two eCOA systems inside the same protocol is rarely a good idea. If YPrime already runs your eCOA for a study, we'll usually advise keeping it there and using WeGuide where it adds something YPrime doesn't.

How the switch works

For teams evaluating YPrime for participant facing work and considering WeGuide instead, or running WeGuide alongside it, here's how onboarding typically plays out.

Discovery Call

A 30 minute conversation with one of our research delivery team. We look at your protocol, your eCOA and consent requirements, and which platform actually fits. If your study needs IRT for randomisation and drug supply, we'll tell you where YPrime or another IRT belongs. If you already have YPrime contracted for a trial, we'll look at where a participant platform adds something rather than duplicating what you have.

Study Configuration

Our team works alongside yours to configure the study in WeGuide: eScreening and consent flows, eCOA schedules, wearable connections, televisits and engagement content. If WeGuide needs to exchange data with YPrime or another system, we scope and configure the integration at this stage. Typical timeline: two to four weeks.

We Guide

Participant Onboarding

The whitelabel app goes live. Your coordinators invite participants, who download the app under your organisation's brand. Consent flows, reminders and support content are ready from day one.

Ongoing Support

You get a named research delivery contact, not a ticketing queue. We stay involved for the life of the study.

Case studies: research teams that needed more than an eCOA app

BRACE Trial (Murdoch Children's Research Institute)

An international randomised trial testing whether the BCG vaccine could protect healthcare workers during COVID-19, run across several countries with thousands of participants. It was a hybrid design: vaccination and blood collection happened in person, and WeGuide supported the participant facing side of the study between those site contacts.

GenV (Generation Victoria)

A whole of state longitudinal birth cohort in Victoria, Australia, covering roughly 124,000 people: about 50,000 children and 74,000 parents. Engagement over many years needs a branded app families keep on their phones, push notifications and multi modal data capture. That's cohort territory, well outside an eCOA and IRT platform.

FSHD Global

A longitudinal patient registry for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy, combining patient reported outcomes with wearable integration. Registries like this outlive any single trial, which is why they need a participant platform rather than a study database. Participants report from home on their own phones, devices sync in the background, and the research team keeps a continuous picture of a rare disease over time instead of a snapshot at each clinic visit.

"GenV trusted WeGuide to run a multi-year population health study with roughly 124,000 Victorians, about 50,000 children and 74,000 parents. Longitudinal engagement at this scale requires push notifications, multi-modal data capture, and a whitelabel app that families will keep on their phones for years.""

Questions

Straight answers on how WeGuide compares to YPrime, what running both looks like, and when YPrime is the right call.

Contact us

Can WeGuide replace YPrime's IRT?

No. WeGuide does not offer IRT or drug supply management. If your study needs blinded randomisation and supply management, keep YPrime or another IRT for that part and use WeGuide where the participant experience is the priority.

Can WeGuide replace YPrime for eCOA and eConsent?

For many studies, yes. WeGuide offers eCOA with a library of validated instruments, and eScreening and eConsent with version control, re-consent workflows and an audit trail, all inside a whitelabel participant app. Where you need YPrime's IRT tied to eCOA, or its localisation across a very large number of languages, YPrime is the stronger fit. Where you need a branded app, televisits, consumer wearables and engagement that keeps people enrolled, WeGuide is.

Does YPrime have a participant app?

Yes. Participants use the YPrime eCOA app on their own or provisioned devices, and since April 2026 it includes a Participant Hub with schedules, tasks, study education, FAQs and training materials. WeGuide's app is whitelabel under your organisation's brand and also carries televisits, messaging, gamification and native wearable sync.

Who owns YPrime?

YPrime was founded in 2006. In February 2019 it announced a significant investment from the private equity firm Flexpoint Ford, with Ballast Point Ventures keeping a minority stake. YPrime's website names no parent company, so check YPrime's own disclosures for the current investor list if it matters to your procurement.

How does pricing compare?

Neither vendor publishes a price list. YPrime takes demo and RFP requests through its website. WeGuide is project based and quoted per study, with hosting, support and modules included. We'll give you a clear quote after the discovery call.

How long does it take to launch a study on WeGuide?

After a discovery call, our team configures the study alongside yours, typically in two to four weeks. Then the whitelabel app goes live and you get a named delivery contact for the life of the study. Any integration with YPrime or another system is scoped on that first call so it's built in the same window.
