Curebase alternatives for teams that want the participant experience under their own brand
Curebase has become a structured eClinical platform that runs a trial from study startup to database lock. If what you need most is a participant app that carries your organisation's name, native wearable data, and engagement that holds up over years rather than one study, that's where WeGuide fits. Whitelabel iOS and Android apps, eConsent, eCOA, and a no code Program Builder, on a managed platform that connects to the EDC you already run.

Why research teams look for a Curebase alternative
%2520(1).png)
The short version
Curebase has changed shape. In 2022 it described itself as an end to end clinical trial company with a network of virtual and hybrid site staff. Today it sells one AI eClinical platform covering recruitment, eConsent, eCOA/ePRO, engagement and EDC, plus a free product for research sites called Sitebase. For a lean biotech or medtech team that wants one vendor and one data model from first patient to database lock, that's a strong proposition.
Why teams look elsewhere
The fit gap shows up when the study isn't really about the database. Some teams need the participant to experience the study as their own institution's programme, with an app in the store under their name, not a vendor's. Some protocols depend on continuous data from Garmin, Apple Health, Health Connect or Fitbit Air rather than questionnaires alone. Some programmes are registries and cohorts that run for years and outlive any single database lock. And many academic and investigator led teams already have an EDC, often REDCap, that they're not ready to replace just to get a better participant experience.
We built WeGuide for that side of the study: the participant facing layer. eScreening, eConsent, eCOA, engagement, telehealth and wearable data in a whitelabel app, configured by your own team through a no code Program Builder, and connected to your data capture system through our Integration Engine. If what you need is a single platform that owns EDC end to end, Curebase may well be the better choice, and we'll say so on the first call.
In practice, the decision usually comes down to one question: what is the centre of gravity of your study? If it's the clinical database, with data managers, source data verification and a lock date driving every decision, a unified eClinical platform like Curebase is built around that. If it's the participant, with recruitment, consent, adherence and retention over months or years driving every decision, you want a platform built around the participant's phone. WeGuide is built for the second group, and it works best when there's already a data capture system the team is happy with.

Where Curebase excels
One system from startup to database lock. Recruitment, eConsent, eCOA/ePRO, engagement and EDC share one data model. For a lean biotech or medtech team that doesn't want to integrate four vendors, that's a genuine operational advantage, and it's something WeGuide, as a participant layer, doesn't try to replace.
A real EDC with data management workflows. Query management, targeted source data verification, freeze and lock, validated electronic signatures and CDISC compliant export are built in. Curebase is a CDISC Gold Member, which tells you where its data team's priorities sit.
Sitebase is free for research sites. CTMS, eISF, eSource and eConsent at no cost to sites, with no per user or per participant fees. Sites that already use Sitebase will find a Curebase sponsored study familiar, and that helps with site activation.
AI that is part of the workflow. The Hope voice agent handles calls, scheduling and reminders, and eCOA Vigilance flags participants at risk of dropping out so sites can reach out early. If your operating model leans on automation to cover thin site staff, that's useful.
Real decentralised trial history. Before the platform repositioning, Curebase ran studies as a virtual and hybrid trial company, including a partnership for at home sample collection in US decentralised trials. That operational history informs a product built by people who have run remote studies, not only designed software for them.
Broad eConsent language coverage. Curebase lists support for more than 40 languages in eConsent, with video, images and comprehension quizzes. For multinational studies where consent is the first hurdle, that's a practical strength.
If your study needs one vendor to own EDC, eCOA and eConsent through to database lock, Curebase is a defensible choice. We'd rather tell you that than sell you a participant platform when what you need is a data platform.
WeGuide alongside Curebase
In most cases teams choose one. Curebase is designed to be the single system for the sponsor and the site, and running a second participant facing app on the same study usually adds work rather than removing it. Where it can make sense is across a portfolio: a sponsor running interventional trials on Curebase while an affiliated registry, cohort or long term follow up programme runs on WeGuide, with data exchanged through our REST API and webhooks. We don't have a prebuilt Curebase connector, so we'd scope any data flow on the discovery call.
The other common pattern is sequencing rather than running in parallel. A sponsor finishes an interventional study on Curebase, then moves consenting participants into a long term follow up or registry on WeGuide, under the sponsor's own brand, with the consent and data sharing arrangements agreed up front. That keeps each platform doing the job it was built for.
How the switch works
For teams moving their participant experience from Curebase to WeGuide, or starting a registry or follow up programme on WeGuide, here's how onboarding typically plays out.
Discovery Call
A 30 minute conversation with one of our research delivery team. We look at your protocol, how you use Curebase today, and which parts of the study are really about the participant rather than the database. If keeping Curebase for EDC is the better answer for your study, we'll say that. No sales pitch.
Study Configuration
Our team works alongside yours to configure the study in WeGuide: consent flows, eCOA schedules, engagement content and wearable connections. If you're keeping an EDC, we configure the Integration Engine at this stage. Typical timeline: two to four weeks.
Participant Onboarding
The whitelabel app goes live, under your own App Store account and name or in the existing WeGuide app. Your coordinators invite participants, consent flows, reminders and education content are ready from day one, and wearable connections start syncing as soon as a participant authorises them.
Ongoing Support
You get a named research delivery contact, not a ticketing queue. We stay involved for the life of the study.

Case studies: research teams that put the participant experience first
BRACE Trial (Murdoch Children's Research Institute)
Murdoch Children's Research Institute's BRACE trial was an international randomised trial testing the BCG vaccine in healthcare workers during COVID-19. It ran across several countries with thousands of participants. It was a hybrid trial: vaccination and blood collection happened in person, and WeGuide supported the participant facing side of the study. It's a good example of the model most real studies use: the clinic does what only a clinic can, and the participant's phone does the rest.
GenV (Generation Victoria)
Generation Victoria (GenV) is a whole of state longitudinal birth cohort in Victoria, Australia, following roughly 124,000 people (about 50,000 children and 74,000 parents). A cohort like that isn't a study with a database lock date. It needs a participant relationship that lasts for years, and engagement at that scale runs on push notifications, scheduling and education content rather than coordinator phone calls.
FSHD Global
FSHD Global runs a longitudinal patient registry for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy on WeGuide, combining patient reported outcomes with wearable integration. It's the kind of programme that sits outside a trial focused eClinical platform: open ended, participant led, and built around a community rather than a protocol. Participants report outcomes from their own phones, and wearable data adds a continuous picture between those reports.
Questions
Straight answers on how WeGuide compares to Curebase, what switching looks like, and when Curebase is the right call.
Contact usWhat is Curebase?
Curebase is an AI eClinical platform founded in 2017 that combines recruitment, eConsent, eCOA/ePRO, participant engagement and EDC in one system for biotech, medtech, pharma and CROs. It also offers Sitebase, a free CTMS, eISF and eSource product for research sites. Earlier in its history it positioned itself as an end to end decentralised trial company with virtual and hybrid site staff.
What are the best Curebase alternatives?
It depends on what you need from the platform. WeGuide is the fit if the participant experience, whitelabel apps, wearables and long term engagement matter most. Jeeva Trials is the closest like for like option if you want EDC and eCOA from one vendor. Medable and Medidata suit enterprise pharma programmes, and ObvioHealth suits sponsors who want a participant app and clinical trial services together.
Does WeGuide replace Curebase's EDC?
No. WeGuide isn't an EDC. It's the participant facing layer: eScreening, eConsent, eCOA, engagement, telehealth and wearable data. Teams typically keep their EDC and connect it through the Integration Engine, which supports two way REDCap sync, HL7 and FHIR, and a REST API with webhooks. If you need one vendor to own EDC end to end, Curebase or Jeeva Trials is the more direct fit.
Does Curebase support wearables?
Curebase's current product pages focus on eCOA, eConsent, EDC, engagement and AI, and don't describe native wearable integrations, although an older Curebase marketplace listing mentions centralised access to wearable data. Ask Curebase directly about your specific devices. WeGuide integrates natively with Garmin, Apple Health, Health Connect and Fitbit Air, and collects raw accelerometer and gyroscope data at 25 Hz on supported Garmin models.
How is WeGuide priced compared with Curebase?
Neither company publishes a price list for sponsors. WeGuide is priced per project, quoted on request, with hosting, support and modules included, so there's no separate line for the whitelabel app or wearable integrations. Curebase quotes on request, and its Sitebase product is free for research sites, funded by sponsors running studies on Curebase.
How long does it take to move a study to WeGuide?
Configuration alongside your team typically takes two to four weeks after a discovery call. For a study already running on Curebase, we'd plan the participant transition and any data export with you before setting a date, and for many teams the cleaner path is to start new studies, registries or follow up programmes on WeGuide.
