Kayentis alternatives for studies where eCOA is one part of the participant experience
Kayentis is a focused eCOA specialist with deep pharma delivery experience. If your study needs more than questionnaires on a schedule, such as a whitelabel app participants keep for years, native wearable data, eConsent and engagement on one platform your own team can configure, WeGuide is built for that. And if Kayentis is the right fit for your protocol, we'll say so.
No pressure, no hard sell. A 30 minute walkthrough with a research colleague who's built platforms like yours.

Why research teams look for a Kayentis alternative
%2520(1).png)
The short version
Kayentis does one job and does it seriously: electronic clinical outcome assessment for Phase I to IV trials run by pharma, biotech and CROs. Its Clin'form eCOA platform covers patient reported outcomes, observer and clinician reported outcomes and diaries, on provisioned tablets, provisioned smartphones, participants' own phones, the web or in interviews, with a services team wrapped around it.
Why teams look elsewhere
The questions start when a study's needs sit outside that core. Teams that want a participant app carrying their own organisation's brand, rather than a vendor's eCOA app, find that Kayentis does not describe whitelabel apps on its public pages. Teams running a patient registry, a population cohort or a long term follow up programme find a product built and sold around the trial, with pricing and delivery shaped by pharma trial services such as COA strategy advisory, project management, data management and worldwide logistics. That is the right model for a global Phase III programme. It is a heavy one for an investigator led study or a five year registry.
The other pattern we hear is about who holds the controls. Kayentis delivers studies through its own project teams, which is part of what its customers value. Research teams that want to build and change their own forms, schedules and engagement content, without raising a change request, are looking for a different operating model.
WeGuide is a participant platform with eCOA built in, not an eCOA specialist that has added engagement. We put eCOA and ePRO, eScreening and eConsent, wearables, telehealth and engagement into one whitelabel app that your team configures with a no code Program Builder. The two models suit different studies, and this page is an honest attempt to show which is which.
A simple test helps. If the main deliverable of your study is a clean regulatory endpoint dataset from a pharma trial, and you want a vendor to run the eCOA build, logistics and helpdesk for you, Kayentis was designed for that job. If the main deliverable is a participant relationship, where consent, questionnaires, wearable data, education and contact with the study team all have to work together under your name, WeGuide was designed for that one.

Where Kayentis genuinely excels
Focused eCOA expertise. Kayentis describes more than 20 years of eCOA experience, with tailored solutions across more than 200 indications and over 20 therapeutic areas. For a sponsor whose main question is "who will get our endpoint data right", a specialist that does nothing else is a reasonable answer.
Every data collection mode. Clin'form supports provisioned tablets and smartphones, participants' own phones, web access from any browser and interviews, across PRO, ObsRO, ClinRO and diary instruments. When a protocol needs controlled, provisioned hardware at sites, shipped and supported worldwide by the vendor, that flexibility is a genuine advantage. WeGuide also supports sponsor provided devices, but it does not offer web browser or interview based collection or a worldwide device logistics service.
Services around the software. COA strategy advisory, project management, data management, governance, worldwide logistics and a 24/7 helpdesk for patients and sites come as part of the Kayentis model. Sponsors without their own eCOA operations team get a vendor that takes that work on.
Clinician rated assessments in CNS. The 2026 partnership with RWS combines rater training, certification and ongoing monitoring with access controls in the eCOA platform, so only certified clinicians complete specific assessments. For neuroscience trials where scoring variability threatens the endpoint, that is specialised capability WeGuide does not offer.
A connected eClinical story. Integrated eCOA and IRT with Perceptive eClinical, announced in March 2026, a Veeva CDB partnership, and ActiGraph LEAP adherence feedback inside the eCOA app through the Ametris partnership announced in January 2026, reduce the number of disconnected systems sites have to juggle on a pharma trial. Ametris has since been acquired by Signant Health, a Kayentis competitor, so ask how that partnership continues.
Momentum with large sponsors. In September 2025 Kayentis reported a 40% increase in orders over the previous year and said it had become preferred provider for four of the world's top 15 pharma companies. It also reports a recommendation rate above 90% in its annual client surveys over the last four years.
If your study is a global pharma trial that needs vendor managed provisioned devices, clinician rated CNS scales or eCOA tied tightly to IRT, Kayentis is a strong choice. We'd rather tell you that than pitch WeGuide into a study where it doesn't belong.
When WeGuide and Kayentis can work together
Running two participant apps inside the same trial is rarely a good idea, so we won't suggest it. Where the two platforms do fit together is across the life of a research programme. Kayentis can capture regulated endpoint data during a pharma trial, while WeGuide runs the parts that sit around it: a patient registry that feeds recruitment, prescreening for the next study, or long term follow up once the trial closes. Data exchange between the two would be scoped project by project through the Integration Engine's REST API and webhooks.
The same logic applies inside a single organisation. A sponsor might keep Kayentis for its global pharma trials while an affiliated academic group, patient organisation or digital health team uses WeGuide for registries and investigator led studies. The platforms answer different questions, and there is no need to force one to do the other's job.
How the switch works
For teams that are weighing Kayentis against WeGuide, or planning the next study on a different platform, here's how onboarding typically plays out.
Discovery Call
A 30 minute conversation with one of our research delivery team. We look at your protocol, your eCOA instruments and how participants will take part. If your study needs vendor run device logistics, web or interview based assessments, or clinician rated CNS scales, we'll tell you Kayentis or another eCOA specialist is the better fit.
Study Configuration
Our team works alongside yours to configure the study in WeGuide: instruments from our library of validated instruments, forms in the Medical Form Builder, eConsent, schedules and engagement content. If you're keeping REDCap or Salesforce, we connect the Integration Engine at this stage. Translations are set up in the same pass for multilingual studies. Typical timeline: two to four weeks.
Participant Onboarding
The whitelabel app goes live. Your coordinators invite participants, who download the app under your organisation's brand and move through screening, consent and their first assessments in one place.
Ongoing Support
You get a named delivery contact, not a ticketing queue. We stay involved for the life of the study, including protocol amendments and re-consent.

Case studies: research teams that needed more than an eCOA schedule
BRACE Trial (Murdoch Children's Research Institute)
Murdoch Children's Research Institute ran the BRACE trial, an international randomised trial testing whether the BCG vaccine could protect healthcare workers during COVID-19. The study spanned several countries and thousands of participants. It was a hybrid trial, with vaccination and blood collection in person, and the WeGuide app carried the participant side of the study between those visits.
GenV (Generation Victoria)
Generation Victoria (GenV) is a whole of state longitudinal birth cohort in Victoria, Australia, of roughly 124,000 people: about 50,000 children and 74,000 parents. A cohort followed over years needs an app families keep on their phones and a platform built for longitudinal participation, which sits outside a trial focused eCOA model.
FSHD Global
FSHD Global runs a longitudinal patient registry for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy on WeGuide, combining patient reported outcomes with wearable integration. It is the kind of programme that continues for years, with no single trial schedule to anchor it.
Questions
Straight answers on how WeGuide compares to Kayentis, what moving looks like, and when Kayentis is the right call.
Contact usWhat is Kayentis?
Kayentis is an eCOA company headquartered in Meylan, near Grenoble, France, with a US office in Boston. Its Clin'form eCOA platform collects patient, observer and clinician reported outcomes and diaries for Phase I to IV trials run by pharma, biotech and CROs, and it wraps the software in services such as COA strategy advisory, project management, data management and logistics. Kayentis is privately held and backed by investors including Innovation Capital, Extens and Lénapart.
What are the best alternatives to Kayentis?
It depends on why you're looking. For a participant platform that combines eCOA with whitelabel apps, eConsent, wearables and engagement, WeGuide. For eCOA plus specialised cardiac, imaging or respiratory endpoints, Clario. For eCOA with clinician ratings and RTSM from one vendor, Signant Health. For eCOA and IRT together, YPrime. For eCOA inside Rave EDC, Medidata Patient Cloud. For engagement led eCOA with gamification, Datacubed Health.
How is WeGuide different from Kayentis?
Kayentis is an eCOA specialist that delivers studies through its own project and services teams. WeGuide is a participant platform where eCOA sits alongside eScreening, eConsent, native wearables, telehealth and engagement in a whitelabel app under your brand, configured by your team with a no code Program Builder. Kayentis is stronger on vendor run device logistics, clinician rated CNS assessments and integrated IRT. WeGuide is stronger on branded participant experience, longitudinal programmes and connections to research systems like REDCap. Both support validated instruments: WeGuide through a library of validated instruments and the Medical Form Builder with conditional logic.
How much does WeGuide cost compared with Kayentis?
WeGuide pricing is project based and quoted on request, and it includes hosting, support and modules. Kayentis does not publish pricing on its website. The fairest comparison is a quote from each vendor against the same protocol.
Can we use WeGuide and Kayentis together?
Yes, across a research programme rather than inside one trial. A common pattern is a specialist eCOA vendor capturing endpoint data during the trial while WeGuide runs a registry, prescreening or long term follow up around it, with data exchange scoped through our REST API and webhooks. We would not recommend giving the same participants two different apps for the same study.
Should we switch from Kayentis in the middle of a trial?
Usually not. Changing eCOA platforms during an active trial is a regulatory and data continuity decision as much as a software one. Most teams make the change at the next study, the next phase of a programme or when a registry or follow up stage begins. Our discovery call is the place to work through what a move would involve for your protocol.
