What is WHO Quality of Life-100 (WHOQOL-100)

The WHO Quality of Life-100 (WHOQOL-100) is a detailed tool that measures individual wellbeing across diverse cultures and health settings. Developed by the World Health Organisation, this instrument looks past generic health checks. It features one hundred items covering twenty-four specific facets of daily life. These facets sit within six broad domains like physical health, psychological state, independence, social ties, environment, and spiritual beliefs. Users rate their experiences on a five-point Likert scale to show exactly how they feel about their situation. Clinicians use this self-report survey to track changes over time or compare different groups effectively. While it takes a bit longer to complete than short forms, the deep data helps professionals plan treatments that focus on the whole person. This makes it a top choice for holistic care strategies.

WHOQOL-100 Scoring

The WHOQOL-100 can be scored using a structured process involving facet and domain calculations. First, you'll check the 100 items rated on a 5 point scale. It's crucial to reverse score specific negative items so higher numbers always mean better quality of life. Next, calculate the mean score for each of the 24 facets and the six broad domains like physical health and social relationships. Finally, transform these raw numbers into a 0 to 100 scale to make comparisons easier. This helps clinicians spot specific areas where a patient might be struggling.
