What is Diabetes Quality of Life Questionnaire (DQoL)
The Diabetes Quality of Life Questionnaire (DQoL) is a trusted tool for checking how diabetes affects daily living. It helps track patient wellbeing. Originally built for the DCCT study, this survey contains 46 items. It looks closely at the specific burden of intensive treatment regimens on a person's life. Questions cover four main areas including satisfaction with treatment, the impact of illness, plus worries about social issues and future health. Patients rate their feelings on a simple five point scale ranging from very satisfied all the way to very dissatisfied. This measure relies on patient reports and is easy to use in clinics or research settings. It works well for adolescents and adults with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. By spotting specific struggles, healthcare teams can adjust care plans to boost health outcomes and make managing the condition much easier.
The Diabetes Quality of Life Questionnaire (DQoL) is scored using a summation method across four core subscales. Participants rate 46 items on a 5 point scale, ranging from 1 for very satisfied to 5 for very dissatisfied. To get the results, you simply add up the responses for the Satisfaction, Impact, Diabetes Worry, and Social Vocational Worry subscales. You can also calculate a total score by summing all items. Lower totals indicate a better quality of life, making it handy for checking how treatment plans affect a patients daily grind and overall wellbeing.
