The scale includes three items for pain, one for satisfaction, and twenty for function. Patients rate pain on a visual analogue scale and function on a Likert scale, where higher scores indicate better shoulder performance and much less disability. It is simple to use in a busy clinic and takes roughly ten minutes to finish. The PSS is valuable for checking recovery before and after surgery. The Penn Shoulder Score can be scored using one main approach based on three sections. It combines distinct parts to reach a total out of 100 points. First, the Pain section rates three items on a 0 to 10 scale for a max of 30 points. Next, Satisfaction is rated out of 10 points based on a single question. Finally, the Function section looks at twenty activities rated 0 to 3, adding up to 60 points. You just sum these parts together, where a higher total means better shoulder function and less pain.
