What is Patient-Rated Wrist/Hand Evaluation (PRWHE)

The Patient-Rated Wrist/Hand Evaluation (PRWHE) is a trusted tool for tracking recovery. It helps clinicians measure pain and function in hand injuries. This questionnaire features 15 items divided into two clear sections. It looks closely at pain levels and how well patients handle daily tasks with their affected hand. Patients rate their experience on a simple zero to ten scale. Five questions ask about pain intensity, while ten focus on specific activities like turning a doorknob or carrying heavy objects. This scoring method makes it easy to spot specific changes over time. Completing the form takes less than five minutes, so it is practical for busy clinics. It is common for conditions like wrist fractures or osteoarthritis. Since it’s self-reported, it gives a clear picture of the patient’s view, helping therapists adjust treatment plans effectively.

PRWHE Scoring

The Patient Rated Wrist Hand Evaluation can be scored using one main approach involving two distinct subscales:1. Subscale Calculation: First, sum the five pain items (rated 0 to 10) to get a score out of 50. Next, add up the ten specific and usual activity items, then divide that sum by two to get the function score out of 50.2. Total Score: Simply add the pain and function totals together for a final result ranging from 0 to 100. Remember that higher numbers indicate worse pain and functional difficulty, giving you a clear snapshot of the patient's hand health status.
