What is Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7)

The Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7) is a short survey used to check how pelvic health issues affect a woman's daily quality of life. This condensed tool looks closely at bladder, bowel, and pelvic symptoms. It helps clinicians understand the real burden of these conditions without using long forms. It covers three specific areas: urinary distress, colorectal-anal impact, and pelvic organ prolapse. Patients rate how much symptoms bother them on a scale from zero to three, making it easy to track changes in physical and social health over time. Doctors often use this questionnaire during initial visits to see if treatments are working well. It’s quick to finish, usually taking just a few minutes, which is great for busy clinics. By focusing on life impact, it ensures care plans address what truly matters to the patient's recovery.

PFIQ-7 Scoring

The Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ 7) can be scored using a standard approach covering three key areas. 1. Start by assigning points from 0 for "not at all" to 3 for "quite a bit" for items in the bladder, bowel, and prolapse sections. If a symptom is missing, mark it as zero. 2. Work out the mean score for each scale and multiply by 33.33 to normalise the results to a 0 to 100 range. 3. Add the three scale scores together to get a total summary score between 0 and 300. Higher tallies indicate the condition is having a bigger effect on a patient's daily life.
