What is ICEpop CAPability Measure for Adults (ICECAP-A)

The ICEpop CAPability Measure for Adults (ICECAP-A) evaluates general wellbeing beyond just health. It looks at what adults can do and be in daily life. Unlike standard health checks, this measure relies on the capability approach. It captures the broader benefits of social care and public health interventions effectively. The tool covers five key attributes which include stability, attachment, autonomy, achievement, and enjoyment. Participants rate their capability on four levels ranging from full capability to none so researchers see the full picture. It is simple to complete and works well for economic evaluations. You can use it in clinical trials or general population surveys to generate a single index score. This makes it a smart choice for studies needing a wider view of adult quality of life and helps improve future care planning decisions.

ICECAP-A Scoring

The ICECAP-A can be scored using two main approaches: the profile coding method and the weighted index score. 1. Profile Coding: You record the response level for the five attributes like stability and enjoyment. Levels are mapped from 1 for no capability to 4 for full capability, creating a five digit profile like 44444. 2. Index Score: This method uses population tariffs to weight the answers. It converts the profile into a single metric ranging from 0 for no capability to 1 for full capability, which is handy for economic evaluations.
