FACIT-F: Assessing Fatigue in Chronic Illness
The FACIT-F helps doctors measure how fatigue impacts a patient's daily routine. Patients use this self-report tool to track energy levels while managing chronic health conditions.

Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Fatigue (FACIT-F)
The Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Fatigue (FACIT-F) is a 13-item questionnaire measuring tiredness in chronic conditions. It helps clinicians track how fatigue impacts daily activities. It's a key tool for understanding a patient's quality of life and managing symptoms.

What is Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Fatigue (FACIT-F)
The Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy - Fatigue (FACIT-F) is a trusted tool for measuring tiredness in various chronic conditions. This 13-item scale focuses on self-reported exhaustion and how it impacts daily activities. It works well alongside the FACT-G to provide a complete picture of quality of life. Patients rate their experience over the past seven days using a simple 0 to 4 scale. The questions cover feelings of weakness, listlessness and the need for sleep, which allows for precise scoring of symptom severity plus functional limitations. It is easy to administer in clinical settings or research trials. While it is popular in oncology, it applies to other chronic illnesses like anemia. It takes only a few minutes to complete, so it fits into busy schedules without adding stress. This makes it great for tracking long-term outcomes.
The FACIT-F can be scored using one main approach involving item summation and reverse coding. You start by looking at the 13 items, which use a 0 to 4 scale. Since most questions ask about tiredness, you have to reverse the scores for the negatively worded items so that 4 becomes 0 and 0 becomes 4. The few questions about having energy stay the same. Once you have sorted that out, add them all up to get a total between 0 and 52. A higher number is actually good news here, meaning the patient has less fatigue and better energy levels in their daily life.
