What is Routine Assessment of Patient Index Data 3 (RAPID3)

The Routine Assessment of Patient Index Data 3 (RAPID3) is a handy tool for tracking rheumatoid arthritis status without needing joint counts. This index pools three specific patient reported measures into a single score. It combines physical function, pain tolerance, and a global health estimate. Patients rate their ability to manage daily tasks like dressing or walking alongside their current pain levels. Each of the three sections is scored on a simple 0 to 10 scale, creating a total range of 0 to 30 that clearly indicates disease severity categories from near remission to high activity. Clinicians love that it takes less than ten seconds to score, making it a top pick for busy practices. It matches up well with complex clinical scores like DAS28 but skips the physical joint exams, helping doctors make smart treatment choices and keep a close eye on patient progress during every visit.

RAPID3 Scoring

The RAPID3 can be scored using one main approach that combines three specific patient measures into a single total. You simply add up scores from three areas: physical function, pain, and patient global estimate. First, the function score comes from 10 activities rated 0 to 3, adjusted to a 0 to 10 scale. Next, take the 0 to 10 ratings for pain and overall health. Add these three numbers for a total between 0 and 30. A score over 12 suggests high severity, while 0 to 3 points to near remission. It is a handy way to track progress without a formal joint count.
