What is

OHS Oxford Hip Score

The EQ-5D is a standardized, self-reported instrument for measuring health-related quality of life, developed by the EuroQol Group. It consists of two components: a Descriptive System and a Visual Analog Scale (VAS). The Descriptive System evaluates five dimensions—mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression—each with three levels (EQ-5D-3L) or five levels (cc) of severity. Respondents select the option that best describes their current health, forming a five-digit health profile. The VAS records overall health on a scale from 0 (worst) to 100 (best). EQ-5D is widely used in clinical trials, population studies, and economic evaluations to assess health outcomes.

EQ-5D Scoring

The EQ-5D can be scored using two main approaches: the Utility Index Score and the Level Sum Score (LSS).

1. Unitity Index Score

Applies country-specific value sets to five dimensions (mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression). Scores range from 0 (death) to 1 (perfect health), with possible negative values for states worse than death. Value sets use methods like Time Trade-Off (TTO) or Visual Analog Scale (VAS).

2. Unitity Index Score

Utilizes national value sets for five dimensions: mobility, self-care, usual activities, pain/discomfort, and anxiety/depression. Scores span from 0 (death) to 1 (perfect health), with potential negative values for states worse than death. Methods like Time Trade-Off (TTO) or Visual Analog Scale (VAS) are used.
