What is

ALIS Asthma Life Impact Scale

The Asthma Life Impact Scale (ALIS) is a patient-reported outcome measure assessing the impact of asthma on quality of life. It's used in clinical practice and research to understand the effects of asthma on daily life. The ALIS comprises 22 items across three core components: asthma and its treatment, physical activity and social activities, and emotional aspects. Respondents rate the impact of asthma on various aspects of their life using a 4-point or 5-point scale, depending on the item. Administration is straightforward, making it suitable for routine clinical use and research studies. The ALIS is an important tool for evaluating asthma management strategies and interventions, providing valuable insights into patient experiences and outcomes. By using the ALIS, healthcare professionals can better understand the major change in a patient's life caused by asthma and develop more effective treatment plans, ultimately improving patient care.

Scoring

The Asthma Life Impact Scale (ALIS) can be scored using one main approach. 1. The ALIS score is calculated by summing the responses to its 22 items, with each item scored on a scale of 0 (never) to 4 (very often), or 0 (not at all true) to 4 (very true), depending on the item. Some items are reverse scored. The total score ranges from 0 to 88, with higher scores indicating a greater impact of asthma on a patient's life. This scoring method provides a straightforward measure of the life impact of asthma.
